This Diwali, what’s it going to be?

Every year, Diwali trends seem to rocket – foods trend and create more fireworks than your phooljhadis and patakas! So this Diwali, what’s it going to be?

Fusion mithais

Fusion is the flavour of the season it seems! With motichoor cheesecakes and rasmalai puddings being sold like hot cakes, it is safe to assume that this Diwali is going to be an amalgamation of East meets West. Not only that, home chefs are coming up with gourmet delights, swapping cheesecake bases for sukhdis and topping their desserts with date ganache instead of chocolate. White chocolate barks seem to be getting Indian flavours with the addition of cardamom and such and are made pretty with rose petals and pistachios.

Healthy is the way to be

While fusion mithais may rule the market, there is a whole mass of people who believe that health comes first – but not at the cost of taste! So what do they do? They create healthy treats that can be eaten without worrying about piling on those inches on your waist. Treats rich on nuts and low on processed fats are a big hit.

Back to basics

Nothing beats a good besan ladoo or a moreish gujiya – not even these fancy fusion mithais can compete with the deliciousness that a boondi ka ladoo drips of! And the millennial junta have finally come to head with this fact, indulging in traditional flavours and even digging out some lost recipes.
