Appreciating those who fed us…!

Gratitude, when expressed, lends a feel-good factor to both the donor and the recipient.

As the end of one of the most cataclysmic years of the decade draws near, one needs to look back with gratefulness for all the good things the year brought in. Agreed that the global pandemic  ruined 10 months of 2020 with ill-health, loss of dear ones, a crippled economy, growing distance from friends and colleagues … and lots more; but along with all this gloominess, there were many rays of sunshine.

Foodism helps jig your memory and try to recollect some of these -

1)Primarily even during the strictest phases of the lockdown, three vendors continued business-as-usual to ensure that our families remained fed in the comfort and security of our houses – the humble vegetable vendor, the milk booths and the friendly neighbourhood provision storekeeper.

2)Secondly, the women of the house (in some progressive houses even the males!) – who valiantly managed both the professional work-from-home and their kitchen responsibilities; with the latter multiplying due to the presence of the children at home (along with their list of demands!)

3)Once the various phases of unlock started, those restaurants, home bakers and home chefs came to the fore who took extra care to ensure that the food reaching us was safe and healthy. They also patiently answered all our queries with regards to the hygiene measures being taken by them.

4)Those food delivery platforms and tiffin service providers who adhered to contactless and cashless delivery to enable us to continue to order and eat food from our favourite hangouts

5)And of course, all those amateur chefs who generously shared their recipes on social media platforms to tempt others to try them out; and the plethora of on-line cookery and bakery classes!

Here’s thanking the aforementioned people (and even those who’ve silently worked behind-the-scenes) who’ve met our demands and fed during 2020 - the year of uncertainty!
