Food Trends Ruling the Roost in 2021

Food Trends Ruling the Roost in 2021

The end of a decade always rings in new fads and a closer look will reveal that some of these are already reigning supreme at the end of 2020 itself!

With change being the universal law of nature, each year brings with it new trends some of which are from lessons learnt in the prior year; 2021 too will have its fair share of trends. Foodism brings you a sneak peek into some of these –

  • Immunity boosting foods will be a priority for consumers across all age groups. So ginger, turmeric, spinach, mint, parsley, basil et al will be a part-and-parcel of our pantry and dining table.
  • With the growing awareness for reducing one’s carbon footprint there’ll be an increase in people opting for vegan and vegetarian diets vis-à-vis meat consumption
  • With the COVID-19 vaccine still to reach many developing countries; badly-hit household budgets; and social distancing in place - takeaway will hold sway. As there’s always the solace of eating in the safe comfort of one’s home
  • Cookery and bakery classes will be a rage with more-and-more people realizing their skills in these areas thanks to the lockdown!
  • When it comes to the restaurant and food delivery industry - transparency, digital modes of payment, technology and customization will be the key words.
  • A segment of foodies may be tad wary about the safety and hygiene standards of commercial restaurants leading to blossoming of the home baker and home chef industry
  • Kitchen gadgets like instant pots, microwaves, domestic flourmills, air fryers et al will be necessities rather than luxuries
  • Households will go back to the traditional system of storing annual supplies of grains, spices, cooking oil et al.
  • Wickedly wasteful banquets will be passé with the lockdown making people more aware of the need to not squander food
