As we all know, waste will inevitably be produced every time you make food. It is of utter importance that we become mindful of the trash that we are generating.

What do we do to the peels of fruits and vegetables? Probably throw them away in the dustbin. Are you ready to break up with this toxic relationship?

1. Ice-cream tubs:

We know that breakups hurt, and you might as well eat a tub of ice cream to soothe yourself. Remember you have broken up with the dustbin, and you do not need it to throw your waste. Reuse the empty tub by decorating it and using it as a jewellery box or store your medicines in it.

2. Lemon peels:

After squeezing out the lemon juice, don’t throw it away. You can make lemon diyas and use them for celebrating environmentally friendly Diwali.

How to make lemon diya?

Turn the lemon inside out, then place a wick in it and add oil. Light your diya, and voila, your lemon diya is ready.

You can also use lemons for its zest by grating its skin and putting in any kind of dish as it adds flavour to foods.

3. Onion /garlic peel:

You would say that we are out of our minds. But no, listen to us. These peels have plenty of nutrients that can be used to make soup stock.

You can also use them as compost for your plants.

4. Potato peel:

Preserve your potato peels as it can be used to make fries and help you get relief from sore eyes or burns.

5. Watermelon rinds:

Wait; do not throw those watermelon rinds as they are saviours of preventing that nasty acne. You just need to freeze them and rub them on your face for clear, acne-free skin.

6. Teabags:

We all are disgusted with the unpleasant smell that our sneakers give. The solution to deodorize our footwear is to keep the used tea bags in the shoes after drying them.

Dark circles are a constant woe for many. But the green tea bags are a great source with which you can reduce your dark circles. Just freeze them and put on your eyes.

7. Apple peel:

Apple peels are another waste item through which you can reduce your dark circles and puffiness. If you are trying different flavoured tea, you can try an apple flavoured tea wherein you need to add the apple peel to your usual black tea simply.

8.  Eggshells:

The eggshells which we toss in the dustbin considering them to be of no use can be used to clean tough stains on utensils. You have to put the crushed eggshells in the utensil and wash as usual. You will realize that the stains will come off easily.

As eggshells contain calcium in them, they can be an excellent fertilizer for your plants.

Eggshells can also be used as an ornament for your Christmas tree.

9. Banana Peel:

Isn’t it heartbreaking that some stain on your shoes make them look old and unappealing? We feel you! Therefore, remember, whenever you eat a banana, do not throw the peel in the dustbin; instead and rub the peel’s inner part on the shoe stains.

10. Ginger peel:

Don’t we all love ginger in our tea? Yes, we do. You can make a powder out of the ginger peel and use it in your tea when you run out of ginger.

11. Orange peel:

You can add orange zest in cakes, puddings, or custards to enhance its taste.

As we know, orange peel is a boon for our skin. You can make a DIY face mask for yourself from it. All you have to do is dry the orange peel, grind it, make it a powder, and add milk and lemon juice to the powder. This face mask will leave your skin feeling refreshed and glowing.

12. Bread corners:

After making a sandwich, a lot of us end up throwing away the bread corners. But to make the optimum use out of them, you can grind them and Eureka! there you have your bread crumbs, which you can use when you are making cutlets or tikkis, and you need not buy bread crumbs anymore.
