Kitchen Hacks to Ease the Pre-Meal Preparation Process

Working smarter in the kitchen is not only a time-saver but cuts down on the energy-spend too. Let’s take a quick look at some kitchen hacks which ease the pre-meal-preparation process –

  1. Make cheese-grating easier and less messy by freezing it for about 30 minutes
  2. Slice soft cheeses, cake and cookie dough logs with unflavoured dental floss to avoid squashing them
  3. For avoiding onion-induced-tears, freeze the onion before chopping; alternatively you can also try this whacky hack - place a slice of bread in your mouth (partially sticking out) to absorb the irritant gas before it reaches the eyes!
  4. The next time you’re struggling with a stuck-jar lid, try wrapping the lid with a rubber band and then turning the lid
  5. Try this for smoothly cutting cherry or grape tomatoes in half – place them between two lids; and then gently slice horizontally through the bunch while pressing down the top lid for perfectly halved pieces
  6. For those home chefs who are racing against time, remembering to remove the butter from the refrigerator an hour prior to its use is a perennial challenge. The way out here is grating the butter with a cheese-grater; or placing the butter in a plastic bag and flattening it with a rolling pin – and hey presto you’ve got spreadable, mixable butter in a flash-of-a-second!
  7. Revive over-softened butter by putting it in a small bowl, and placing the small bowl in a larger one filled with a few handfuls of ice and some cold water
  8. Give crystallized honey a new life by placing the container in a bowl of hot water for five to 10 minutes
