Panchakhadya Modak

Panchakhadya Modak

Ukadiche Modak is a popular rice flour dumpling preparation with a soft coconut and jaggery filling. Panchakhadya is a traditional prasad made up of five ingredients offered during the Ganesh festival in Konkan region.
To add a twist to the conventional steamed Modak, I combined these two elements, which are considered to be Lord Ganesha's favourites. Dry coconut, jaggery, dates, a mixture of roasted nuts (groundnut, almonds, cashew) and jowar puffs (lahya) are used to make Panchakhadya; cardamom and sesame seeds are added to improve the flavour. The coarsely ground panchakhadya mixture is then stuffed into rice flour dough and shaped into kalidar Modak. The taste of steamed hot modaks would be elegant and delectable.
