Women Chefs disrupting the hospitality industry

Are female chefs breaking the shackles of stereotypes? Yes, the phrase ‘women in kitchen’ is a multi-dimensional concept in the culinary world, bringing their professional prowess into execution. However, male dominance has brought numerous challenges to women chefs, but despite this, women have broken the glass ceiling. There are examples of impeccable women chefs changing the face of the hospitality/ F&B industry with their idiosyncratic concepts and serving as inspiring women entrepreneurs, restauranteurs and chefs. 

Chef Doma Wang fought gender discrimination and is a proud restauranteur in Kolkata, successfully managing The Blue Poppy. She is a Tibetan chef upholding the essence of Himalayan cuisine, particularly Tibetan momos. 

Vanshika Bhatia, a culinary innovator espousing the Indian Heritage - believes in enhancing the culinary landscape by using locally grown ingredients and supporting sustainability. She is the owner and chef-partner at OMO and being a female chef in a male-dominated industry wasn’t easy for her. She found working on platforms like Masterchef with other like-minded women chefs has been quite empowering. One should always be focused on showcasing resilience, skills & experience. 

A proud Indian businesswoman, Indian pastry chef and owner at Le 15 Patisserie. Overcoming skepticism Pooja Dhingra excelled in making her career in baking. Her venture was the first to bring macarons in India and it is loved across the country. The chef so far has published 6 books - one of these has won 2nd place at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards. 

Parsi chef - Anahita Dhondy had multiple challenges including her experience with man management. She overcame sexist remarks but kept believing in herself and successfully sought a career as a Chef Manager at Soda Bottle Opener Wala

Today, a significant number of women are successfully managing their businesses, and luxury kitchens with better results and driving innovations proving that no gender shackles can stop them from reaching heights.
