Besan chilla

  • 2 cup besan / gram flour / kadle hittu
  • 0.5 tsp turmeric / haldi
  • 0.5 tsp caraway seeds / ajwain
  • 1 cup water (or as required)
  • salt to taste
  • 1 onion
  • 4 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
  • 2 inch ginger (finely chopped)
  • 2 green chilli (finely chopped)
  • 10 tsp oil (for roasting)

Instructions

  • STEP1 )firstly, in a large mixing bowl take 1 cup besan. STEP 2)add in ¼ tsp turmeric, ¼ tsp ajwain and salt to taste. STEP 3)additionally, add ½ cup water or little more. mix with the help of whisk to form a smooth batter. now rest the batter for 30 minutes or more so that besan absorbs water and turn light. STEP 4)furthermore, add in ½ onion, ½ tomato, 2 tbsp coriander leaves, 1 inch ginger and 1 green chilli. STEP 5)mix well with the help of ladle and get to a flowing consistency batter. STEP 6)further, pour a ladleful of batter onto a hot tawa and spread gently. STEP 7 )pour a tsp of oil over chilla. STEP 8)allow to cook on medium flame. STEP 9)now flip the chilla and cook both sides. finally, fold the besan chilla and serve with green chutney.

Notes/Tips

1)firstly, adjust the batter consistency depending on the thickenss of chilla you require. 2)also make sure to rest the besan batter for atleast 30 minutes, else it might lead to gastric problem. 3)additionally, add in vegetables of your choice to make it more nutritious. finally, cook besan chilla on both sides till they turn golden brown.
