- First wash and soak the moong dal in water for around 5- 6 hrs. Drain the water used for soaking, and cook the dal in fresh water. Close and cook on medium low flame till the moong dal is soft. While it is cooking, make the coconut mixture by mixing together the grated coconut, chopped garlic, cumin seeds, turmeric powder and chili powder. Stir in the coconut mixture into the cooked green gram. Turn to low flame and cover with a lid. Keep the thoran in low flame for another 5-7 mins. Remove the lid and stir fry the dish. Serve the dish with rice.
