Fara or Chawal Ke Fare is quick to make breakfast dish from Chhattisgarh made with just three ingredients like rice flour, salt, and oil. These make a healthy option for breakfast.

Ingredients

  • Rice flour - 250 g
  • Hot water - as required
  • Salt
  • Turmeric powder
  • Chana dal - 2 tsp
  • Mustard and cumin seeds - 2 tsp
  • Udad dal - 2 tsp
  • Hing - 2 tsp
  • Curry leaves 2 tbsp
  • Green chillies - 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - as required
  • Oil - 1 tbsp
  • Tender coconut- 1 tbsp

Instructions

  • Take a small pan, make a tadka by adding 2 tsp oil, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, channa dal and udad dal and let them turn into golden brown.
  • Saute by adding pinch of turmeric powder and Hing.
  • Saute by adding curry leaves chilles and keep it aside.
  • Place the rice flour into the vessel and add the tadka, roughly chopped coconut, chopped Coriander to it and mix them properly.
  • Add hot water to it little by little and knead into soft dough.
  • Pinch into small balls and roll between your greased palm into 3-inch fingers.
  • Finally, when you make all the balls into fingers, proceed to cook.
  • Steam the balls in cooker for about 5 to 10 mins.
  • While the balls are being cooked prepare another tadka using the same procedure followed above.
  • Finally take out the balls and mix them with the tadka. Serve hot with chutney or sauce.

Notes/Tips

Check the fara with a knife when it comes clean fara is ready to eat
