Ingredients

  • Whole wheat flour
  • Refined Flour
  • Salt
  • Cold butter
  • Buttermilk
  • Caraway seeds
  • Baking soda

Instructions

  • 1. Sift all the dry ingredients together. Add the caraway seeds and mix well.
  • 2. Now, rub the butter into the flour mixture to give it a sandy texture.
  • 3. Mix the buttermilk and flour together in a mixing bowl and make dough. One just needs to bring the mixture together and not actually knead the dough.
  • 4. Place the dough on a baking sheet and score it.
  • 5. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180°C for 50 mins or until done.
  • 6. Remove and cool well before slicing.
  • 7. Enjoy with a generous layer of butter and a cup of beverage of your choice.

Notes/Tips

1. For a sweet bread, one may substitute caraway seeds with raisins. 2. For non-vegetarians, one may choose to add an egg for a richer dough.
