- Take dal and rice in a bowl and rinse 2-3 times. Soak in water for half an hour at least. Drain away the excess water and keep aside.
- Now heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add in all the whole spices. Allow them to crackle and add sliced onion, ginger and garlic. Cook till onions turn pink.
- Now add in the chopped tomatoes and cook till they turn soft. No need to make it mushy.
- Add in the soaked dal, rice, water, peas ( hare Matar ) and add in all the powdered spices and salt.
- Stir with a ladle to combine everything well. Now close the lid and cook on high flame for 3-4 whistles.
- Remove from heat and allow the pressure to settle down.
- Hare Matar ki Khichdi is now ready. After you open the lid of cooker, stir it gently and top with freshly chopped coriander to further enhance the flavors and aroma.
- Serve hot!
