Mungauchi is a traditional and special sweet dish of Bihar.  It is specially made on the occasion of Ramzan and Eid.  Small pakoras made of washed moong dal and dipped in sugar syrup, which taste delicious.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Moong dal
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1 cup Water
  • As required Oil for frying
  • 1 tsp Rose essence
  • 1/2 tsp Kewra Essence
  • 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped Pistachios
  • 1/2 tsp Orange food colour

Instructions

  • Soak the washed moong dal overnight.
  • Then drain the water and wash it.
  • Grind it in a mixer to make a fine paste.
  • Now beat it with a spoon or with your hand until it becomes light.
  • In a vessel prepare sugar syrup with water and sugar.
  • Now put cardamom powder, rose essence and kewra essence in the syrup and turn off the flame.
  • Heat oil in a pan.
  • Now prepare pakoras by adding little batter with your hands.
  • Put the pakoras in hot oil.
  • Fry the pakoras well till they become light golden.
  • Remove the pakoras from the oil
  • Prepare all the pakodas and put them in the syrup.
  • Put orange food color in the syrup and keep it covered for 2 hours.
  • When it cools down, enjoy the moong dal rasgullas(Moongauchi).

Notes/Tips

Beat moong dal batter well to make light pakode.
