- Soak both rice and urad dal with fenugreek seeds separately at least for 5 hours. Drain it and grind the rice coarsely with urad dal to form thick batter. Let the batter ferment. Roast the moong dal until they turn brown. Add the cardamom powder, sugar to the batter and mix them well. Grease the idli plates and fill them with batter, sprinkle moong dal and grated coconut over them. Steam cook for 10 minutes. Serve hot with chutney.
