Ingredients

  • Wheat flour
  • Ghee
  • Pineapple cubes
  • Coconut grated 
  • Almonds
  • Raisins
  • Refined sugar
  • Khoya
  • Salt
  • Poppy seeds
  • Yellow food colour 
  • Water

Instructions

  • Mix wheat flour with a pinch of salt and 2tbsp ghee.
  • Add water and make a dough. Then add yellow food colour and mix it properly with the dough. Keep it aside.
  • In a non-stick pan, add grated coconut in1tbsp ghee and saute.
  • Then add chopped pineapple cubes and cook until the water evaporates.
  • Add chopped almonds, raisins, poppy seeds, khoya and mix it properly.
  • Now add refined sugar and cook till it melts and mixes into the mixture.
  • The filling is ready. Keep it aside to cool down.
  • Make small balls from the dough. Grease your hands with ghee and take a ball and roll into round disc.
  • Stuff the fillings in the center and bring together all the edges and join them to shape modaks.
  • Now, grease the steaming pan with little ghee and place the modaks carefully.
  • Steam the modaks for 15 minutes or till it becomes shiny.
  • The modaks are ready to be offered to lord Ganesha.

Notes/Tips

1. Make sure that the dough is not dry or too sticky. 2. The stuffing should not be overcooked. 3. Do not flatten the dough too thin  or too thick. 4. Secure the edges properly. 5. Add a pinch of turmeric powder to the dough if you want to skip the yellow food colour.
