Pohala’ fish is a common variety we get in local fish market. This curry is a spicy fish curry which can be enjoyed with hot steam rice. Fish are fried first with a generous amount of Mustard Oil. You can use different cooking oil too.

Ingredients

  • Whole pohala fish -500 gm
  • Mustard seeds -2 tbsp
  • Salt as per tast
  • Garlic -5 cloves
  • Turmeric powder-1 tbsp
  • Onion-1 chopped
  • Green chillies -4
  • Tomatoes-2 chopped
  • Mustard oil -300 ml
  • Panch futan -1 tbsp
  • Coriander- for garnishing
  • Cumin seeds -1 tbsp

Instructions

  • Clean the fish and marinate with turmeric powder and salt and keep it some 10-15min. Fry the fish till golden from both sides.
  • Blend cumin seeds, mustard seeds, green chillies, garlic and make a paste.
  • Heat up a pan add 3tbs mustard oil. Add panchforon, let it crack. Add chopped onion and fry till golden brown. Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, salt and cook toll tomatoes are caramelized
  • Add the mustard seeds paste to the pan .add water and lower the flame. Cook it for 10min.
  • Now add the fried fish and boil it for 3min.
