  • Ghee
  • Rava/Sooji
  • Mustard seeds
  • Urad dal
  • Chana dal
  • Curry leaves
  • Chopped ginger
  • Chopped green chilli
  • Chopped onion
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Sugar
  • Lemon juice

Instructions

  • Heat ghee/oil in a pan. Add suji and sauté for 2-3 minutes on low flame. Stir continuously to make sure it doesn’t get burn. Remove from the flame and keep aside for later use.
  • For Upma, heat ghee/oil in a same pan and splutter mustard seeds, then add chana dal, urad dal. Sauté until they turn light brown.
  • Now add ginger & green chili and cook for a minute until ginger releases its raw smell.
  • Add curry leaves and onion and sauté until onion turn translucent.
  • Add in salt, water and allow it to boil. When it starts boiling allow it it to boil for 2 minutes. In this way all the flavors will infuse in water and eventually dal will become soft.
  • Now at this stage add in prepared suji / rava. Stir continuously while cooking to avoid any lumps.
  • Add sugar and cook it for a minute.
  • When almost all the water is absorbs reduce the flame. sprinkle lime juice, coriander leaves and ghee. Mix well.
  • Serve immediately.
