Ingredients

  • Atta  ½ cup
  • Coconut 2 cups
  • Khoya ½ cup
  • Sugar ¾ cup
  • Cocoa powder 2tbsp
  • Pistachios 6
  • Cranberries  few
  • Dried rose petals few
  • Red food colour  1-2 drops
  • Ghee 1tbsp
  • Cardamom powder ½tsp

Instructions

  • First, take a  non-stick pan and roast atta in ghee till it becomes aromatic. Transfer to a bowl and keep aside.
  • Cut coconut into pieces and grind into paste.
  • In the same pan, cook coconut in low heat.
  • Add khoya and roasted atta to this and mix well.
  • Now add sugar and cardamom powder. Stir well till the mixture leaves the sides and forms a soft lump.
  • Let this mixture cool for few minutes.
  • Divide the mixture into three parts. Mix cocoa powder to one part.
  • Shape the cocoa part into diyas. Chill to firm into shape.
  • Keep the second part as it is to give it the natural look of ghee. Fill the diyas with this mixture.
  • Keep the third part small. Just 1½tbsp of the mixture is enough to shape it as flame. Add red food colour and shape it as red flame.
  • Decorate it with pistachios, cranberries and dried rose petals.

Notes/Tips

1. Stir the mixture continuously until it leaves the sides and forms a soft lump. 2. Chill the diyas to firm into shape. 3. You can make coconut diyas without atta also.
