- Coarsely powder moong dal, pepper, jeera. In a kadai, temper with oil, mustard,urad dal,curry leaves,red chilli,hing. Add 1 & ½ cup water, salt and bring to boil. Add the powdered dal, millets and let it boil for a minute. Add grated coconut. Cook covered for 5 minutes. Let it be aside until it is warm enough to handle. Make equal sized balls and arrange in a greased idli plate. Boil water in idli pot and steam the upma kozhukattais for 5 minutes.
