- Heat 1 cup of oil, cut the tomatoes into 1 inch cubes and start frying. Add turmeric powder, sugar and tamarind paste to the frying tomatoes. Fry till oil heat in the pan. Heat the remaining oil in a pan and add methi seeds and mustard seeds. Once mustard starts to splitter, add asafoetida and turn off the stove. Immediately add chilli powder to this oil and mix well. Once the fried tomatoes cool off, add the methi powder and salt. Grind everything together into a smooth paste. Serve with rice.
