Urad dal khichdi

Ingredients

  • Long grain basmati rice
  • kali urad dal
  • mustard oil
  • tejpata
  • dry red chilli
  • hing
  • zeera
  • 1 med sized onion sliced
  • garlic paste
  • ginger paste
  • haldi powder
  • garam masala powder
  • salt to taste
  • sugar
  • 1/2 cup boiled peas
  • 1 large potato diced

Instructions

  • Mix dal & rice , wash it , soak in water for 1 hour. strain it , keep aside .
  • Take a pressure cooker , add oil , heat it .
  • Add tejpatta and dry red chilli , saute it for a sec .
  • Add hing , zeera , let it splutter .
  • Now add onions , stir fry it until brown .
  • Add veggies now , stir fry it for a min .
  • Add khichdi mix now , stir fry it for 2 min .
  • Now add ginger garlic paste , stir fry it until rawness is released .
  • Add haldi powder and salt stir fry it for 1 min .
  • Add garam masala powder , give a stir .
  • Add 2 cup water ( can increase as per ur choice . this is a dry khichdi ) . Add sugar now .
  • Place the lid , give 4 - 5 whistles .
  • Switch off the flame , allow it to depressurise .
  • Take out in a serving bowl or dish , have it with desi ghee , raita , salad or papad , achar .

Notes/Tips

This is a speciality in an INDIAN FESTIVAL called MAKAR SANKRANT . People have it in their normal lunch even . quite popular in some parts of INDIA .
