  • Rice flour 1 Cup
  • Water 1 Cup
  • Cocoa Powder 2 Tbsp
  • Refined Oil 1 Tbsp
  • Chocolate blocks 15 pcs
  • Salt Pinch

Instructions

  • In a pan, boil 1 cup of Water along with Refined oil and a pinch of salt. Sieve Rice flour & Cocoa powder together and keep aside. Slowly add in the Rice Flour Cocoa mixture, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. it will form a pasty dough.
  • Remove from heat and knead it with greased hands. when it becomes easier to handle, make small balls, flatten them and keep one block of chocolate inside and shape into Modaks. I used Dairy Milk singles, u can use any chocolate like Hershey Kisses, etc.
  • Once all the Modaks are ready, place them in a steamer or idli plates and steam in a cooker without whistle for 8 mins. Let it rest for a couple of minutes and enjoy delicious Chocolate Modaks. before steaming, make sure the modaks are well sealed.
  • U can even keep Dried Berries or roasted nuts inside along with the chocolate for an interesting twist.

Notes/Tips

1. while shaping the modaks, keep the rest of the dough covered with a moist cloth to prevent it from drying. 2. the modaks need to be well sealed to avoid breakage and prevent the chocolate from leaking out and the modaks getting soggy. 3. hands need to be greased always to ensure convenient shaping. A readymade modak shaper can be used shaping if you are not used to shaping by hand.
