Dahi vada is deep fried lentil balls dipped in curd, topped with chutney and spice powder and served. It is a classic North Indian dish.

  • Urad dal 1 cup
  • Ginger 1 teaspoons
  • Green chillies 1/4 units
  • Cumin 1/2 teaspoons
  • Curd thick 2 cup
  • Sweet tamarind chutney 1/2 cup
  • Chilli powder 1 teaspoons
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Roasted cumin powder 1 teaspoons

Instructions

  • Wash urad dal and soak for 5 hours.
  • Drain water from dal and add to a blender jar with cumin, salt, green chili and ginger.
  • Add required amount of water and blend into a smooth fluffy batter.
  • Take the batter in a bowl and beat it for few minutes to aerate the batter.
  • Heat oil in a Kadani.
  • Take small portion of batter and drop into the hot oil and fry all vadas till light golden and crisp.
  • Drop all the fried vadas into normal water.
  • Now after few minutes gently press down all the vadas between palms to take out the excess water from it and place in plate.
  • Beat the curd and add salt to it.
  • Pour the beaten curd over the vadas.
  • Top with red chilli powder, roasted cumin powder ,chopped coriander leaves and sweet tamarind chutney to serve.
