- Wash toor dal and soak for 1 hr.
- Pour 2 cups water in pressure cooker, add toor dal, turmeric powder and salt.
- Pressure cook for 3 whistles on medium flame. The dal need to be cooked till smooth.
- Scrap the drumstick and chop them in two pieces.
- Peel the shallots and cut into two.
- Now take a cooking pot, add ghee to it.
- When ghee gets hot, add mustard seeds, methi seeds, dried chili, curry leaves and hing.
- When seeds crackle add onion ,ginger and sauté.
- Now add chopped tomatoes, drumsticks, red chili powder, sambhar masala, coriander powder and sauté well.
- When tomatoes get pulpy, add cooked dal to it and add required amount of water.
- Stir it, now add tamarind pulp and salt to it. Stir well and let it boil for few minutes.
- Your Sambhar is ready to be served.
